History:
Original Model Year - The first 2007 Hypermotard was available in two configurations: the base '1100' model and the higher specification '1100S' model. The more expensive 1100S featured a durable low friction diamond-like carbon (DLC) black coating to the front fork sliders, an Öhlins remote reservoir rear shock, the same Brembo Monobloc brake calipers used on the 1098, lighter forged aluminium Marchesini wheels with a red pin-stripe, Pirelli tires, plus carbon fibre fork protectors, timing belt covers, front mudguard/ fender and tail/ exhaust side panels. These upgrades made for a 2 kg (4.5 lb) weight saving; 177 kg (390 lbs) versus 179 kg (395 lbs) for the base model. To help with identifying the different models at a glance, if the fork protectors are plastic and match the colour of the tank, it's almost certainly a base model (although some base model owners change to carbon protectors). NB. The Hypermotard was first sold in the United States as a 2008 MY, not a 2007 as some other countries received.
2008 MY - For 2008, a new colourway of black-with-black-frame was introduced for the 1100S model only, making it the first non-red Hypermotard available. In late 2008, for the 2009 model year, Ducati introduced a white-with-red-frame colourway for the base model.
2009 MY - The specification remained virtually the same for 2009, however the 1100S model received 48 mm Kayaba forks (with DLC coating) to replace the 50 mm Marzocchi items, while lower-spec Marzocchi forks continued to be offered on the base model. The Kayabas had a noticeably deeper-gold finish to the stanchions than the forks they replaced, but the finish on the forks of the base model remained silver. The only other obvious differences were that the crank case covers were finished in a dark grey colour for the base model, rather than the gold of the 1100S. Also, for 2009 the 1100S model came with Ducati's DDA telemetry/ data-logging device and software.
